David Hemings and Samantha Eggar; the Brangelina of their day?
Always surprised by her relative lack of success, as she was a real beauty with acting chops to match.
And David Hemming’s physical change from then to barely recognisable as the same bloke around the time of Gladiator must be one of the biggest transformations in cinematic history…apart from Laurence Fishburne, who I still don’t believe is in Apocalypse Now…ha-ha!
On a side note, and as I’m new to your writings, have you covered 1971s SWALK (original title) but retitled as Melody, yet? Jack Wild reunited with Mark Lester at the tail-end of the sixties and beginning of the seventies. If you have, I’d love to read it.
A charming, evocative and very grown-up film. Thanks for highlighting it. The theme inspired Cleo Laine to write lyrics ('He was beautiful', 1972) which she recoded and performed with John Williams. Those lyrics makes a great deal of sense in the context of this film, but none whatsoever in the context of the theme's 1978 outing, 'The Deer Hunter'.
This sounds like a gem, I don't recall ever seeing it, but you have absolutely sold me on it Luke. Hemmings was perfect in Blow up and I'm intrigued to see him and Samantha in this film. I love these early seventies visuals, as you say, it's all about the understated subtlety that captures the beauty.
It's a wonderful, subtle gem. Sam Eggar especially- terrific performance. Hemmings' great too. Really moving. Quite a rare film- either DVD or YouTube (complete film).

And if not, when are you going to?
I know it and it's everything you said. Superb choice again.
Thank you! Too kind. Hope you like next Friday's choice...

It is all about the writing, so rare nowadays... Thank you for sharing, I didn't know about this. Off to search for it!
It's quite a rare film. Either DVD or YouTube (complete film).
This sounds great, thank you!
